Winona-Ryder
Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name of Winona Laura Hoowitz, birthed in Winona Minnesota. She was named by her parents for the town where she was raised in. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's dad was born into the Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County in California when she was seven years old. There were no electric lights. Ryder was an avid reader and spent her time reading books because she had no television. Ryder took acting classes when Ryder was twelve years old, in the American Conservatory Theatre. In 1986 she landed her first big-screen role in the movie Lucas at just fifteen years old. Ryder experienced bullying at high school. She hoped acting would bring about a change. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. However, it didn't stop her from pursuing dreams. Beetlejuice the 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first major breakthrough. Ryder was able to continue playing characters that made a splash in several movies. In 1993, she was awarded an Academy Awards for The Age of Innocence.
